Here's a picture of some of my Black Bamboo.
When it snows, or rains hard, some of it leans over the driveway and has to be cut off. I usually drive under it and cut it while standing in the bed of my truck.

I believe the Snowball bush is a viburnam rather than a hydrangea.

I think so too. I have raised a lot of them over the years, mostly from seed. I started with a paper sack of maple seeds from a maple collection. I raised the plants and then took seeds from the best and raised them. Now I'm selecting from the best of those.

mh52, where are you located?
I'd just leave it alone.

I have several weeping Japanese Maples. Some were obtained at a moving sale. I dug them up and 'moved' them. Most people don't think about selling their plants before moving.
I bring it up.
When pruning a Japanese Maple I like to prune them up and 'show a little leg'. It works best to show...

I grow a lot of Rhododendrons. Usually the cause of leaves just on the tips of the branches is a lack of light. Either limb up the adjacent trees trees or move the rhododendron to a site with more sun. They move easily.

The soil here is acid so I don't have much to say about turning sweet soil into acid soil.
Hydrangeas grow here without much care. They do like a little shade and summer water to keep them from wilting. I usually plant them in a damp, shady spot with drainage.
I grow several varieties. Here's...

Here's that picture I was looking for. I need to be more organized!
When I prune again I'm going to make it look like the wind is blowing stronger. Also prune to make it look more high altitude, up near the sub-alpine level.

In part of my garden I have a giant bonsai, miniature sub-alpine, old growth forest, on a windy rocky ridge. The trees are pruned to show a prevailing wind. Now I know you would like to see a picture of it but, it needs of some pruning. I've had other priorities for awhile.
Here's part of it...

I gave some Phyllostachys aurea to my mother in Spokane, Wa., Zone 5. She planted it in a sheltered spot and gave it plenty of summer water. It struggled and barely grew to 4 ft. high and looked pretty ragged all the time.
Here in Zone 8 on the other side of the Cascade MTs., A lot of Bamboo...

Lyn, Bob explained our climate pretty well. I'd like to add, we have dry summers with relative low humidity. Hot, muggy days are a rarity here. Working outside in the winter when it's cool with high humidity, is warmer than you think. I can get a lot done with temps in the 40's during the...

Common names breed confusion.
Ipomoea. Garden variety that you see in garden catalogs. Grandpa Ott is one. Annual.
Not a problem.
Convolvulus arvensis. Commonly called Field Bindweed. It's a perennial that grows from
rhizomes and forms a flat...

Nice garden! Looks like you spend some real quality time in it.
Nice looking 'Guard dog'. You should feed her once in awhile though. ;-)
I see you're from western Ma. I spent a week there once. Stockbridge. We saw Norman Rockwell's museum and the Botanical garden. Also Red Lion Inn and...
