I had a yard consult this aft with a turf specialist, ha. I never thought I would learn so much about grass. He told me how important grass is to the environment and that 650 square feet of good grass could provide enough oxygen for a person to live for a year. This guys is probably in his early 50s and is going to school at Penn State part time as a turf specialist. He was so into environmental things, we had so much in common. I think that I made a friend for life all in 45 minutes. Anyway, we are going to get probably 2 more yards of leaf compost and another yard of topsoil and just topdress right over our existing trouble spots and then he is going to come in with his aerator in July or August when it is dry and aerate all of the problem areas. He says that we really need to put some organic material right down in that clay and sandstone subsoil. He drove up and looked at the front yard and wondered what my concern was...but that back is where the river runs thru, so that is where we need help.
I also spent an hour or so at the garden center today, so needless to say, I am sufficiently stimulated for the day. Fun, fun.
