Has anyone planted Walla Walla onions in the pacific northwest? I picked up a bunch of cut onions from the feed store the other day on a whim and I'm gonna plant em soon. I have 3cu fft of Natures brand compost/soil conditioner. I was gonna just mix 3" in the top and shove these in between our herbs out front and on the other side of our lettuce. It's a mid day/evening sun area. I'm wondering if I should cut the tops again before I plant them too because they are turning brown at the cuts.... Any advice would be great thanks!

I haven't ever planted any, but this is a good onion area. I have always used onion sets. The Walla Walla Sweet isn't a good keeper, but you can't beat them for taste.

Lookin' good. I had a friend from Walla Walla and he loved those onions. He told me he could take one and eat it like an apple. I like onions and I know they are good for us, but I like them as an added item in cooking or on a burger or something, but not alone. I don't make macaroni and cheese very often, but a can of cream of mushroom soup and some diced up onion really makes that dish stand out. I don't use the boxed mac and cheese though. I use the real stuff.
