Great Blue Heron

Day 27, the penguin flock seems to have accepted me as one of their own...

That's right, the penguin flock! On several visits to the Woodland Park Zoo, I've found this fellow in the Penguin exhibit, casually walking around, eating fish, and maybe confusing young children "Mommy, why is that penguin so tall?!?"

This guy knows a free lunch when he finds it, so he's a regular these days.

Love, the Great Blue Heron, and here in the Sunshine State of Florida, we do have a few. I can once recall having dinner with my wife. This Great Blue Heron was drying its wings off in the summer breeze, coming in from across the large pond. It is called Lake Morton in Lakeland, Florida where we have a wide collection of waterfowl. The Queens Swains, Pelicans, Ducks, Storks, and many other large birds in a small. But the one thing that caught my eye was this Great Blue Heron drying off both its upper and lower wings. Which so gracefully lifted her into flight. Nature is beautiful when you open your eyes to see it all unfold before you.
