Autumn has arrived, a walk in our woods

We have several varieties of woodpeckers here and the two I see the most are the 'downey woodpecker' and the 'northern flicker'. the downey is a little guy/girl and the northern is gaudier and at least 4 times the size of the downey. The northern will sometimes peck rapidly on a tin roof or some other metal object. I thought they were daft, but I found out they are looking for a girl woodpecker when they do that.
