I think I am in the veggie garden most days doing something or another... I surely don't have that many tomatoes or peppers but then I don't feel the need to make salsa for everyone anymore... I used too...but then i remember always what my dad said to me when he taught me to fish.
I love my flower gardens also...for years and years I never had time to garden or attend to flower or veggie gardens..never knew where work was gonna take me. I am blessed & honored to have the time to take care of them now....
Shiney Deb how is our little one doing?
Peggy

I am going to try something new this year though, PL. I want to dry a lot of my peppers so I will have them to use during the wet months. I looked at the dried peppers in the market yesterday and the selection was pretty small.

I understand totally Randy...now I dry lots of stringers of cayenne, chilis, & haberaros every year for myself and others that I don't use in my salsas, spicy hot tomato juice, hot pickled okra, and a few other recipes that I put up for winter.

Little one is doing great. So are Momma and Dad. He doesn't look too happy here...shortly after birth...more to come.

I'm going to give it a try. I have felt a lot better since I found out that I have diabetes and I feel more like doing stuff.

Awe Deb...He is precious! I know you all are so proud and glad Mom and Dad are doing good~~~ He reminds me of Tracy when she cried...lil wrinkled up forhead. I know you are enjoying baby bundlle but I have missed you... I think of ya every day girly...How is the adjustment to the new job coming along.... Are you enjoying it yet? I sure hope you are having fun with it... I think that is very important...:D

Randy I am glad you are feeling better. I know if you are feeling better you are following the Doc's directions. My Grandma Lafferty/Daigneu had diabetes for most of her life.. She sure lived and traveled the world....but only by train.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.
Peggy

Whew...had some powerful storms just pass thru...big ol' hail!! All is well, though.

My new job...well...I love the interaction with the patients. I love making them laugh and hopefully not think of their injuries and pains for a while. It's so very hectic, though and stressful...3 or 4 at a time waiting to check in or out and making future appointments...all the while 2 or 3 on hold on the phone. BamBamBam. 10 hour days go by very fast, but am totally drained when I pull in the driveway at 7pm. Lots of stupid drama and political bull there too...and I don't play those games and they are finding that out.. But I'm not complaining. It's a good job.

Baby's tear ducts are plugged, so he has antibiotic ointment all over his poor little face...but he's eating like a piglet and rarely cries. All is good. Brit's diabetes was gestational, so she's well now. Sorry to hear about you, Randy. At least you have an answer.

I just told the doctor yesterday that finding out was more of a blessing than a curse. I've lost over 40 pounds and feel like working outside and getting things done. I take some pills and make sure I get enough exercise and eat differntly. The dietician they sent me too is a real whiz. I have learned so much from her. I took a jar of jam in to her at the last class we had and she hugged me and told me that no one had ever done that before. We have talked since then and will probably line up a jamming session when her time allows. She is a busy gal though and she has a small girl and takes care of another small girl. My wife and I go to the diabetes support group at the hospital every month and the dietician hosts that, so we see her just about every month.

Randy congratulations on the weight loss and making disease friend instead of enemy...that is the only way in my opinion...
I have a disease that I consider a blessing with a curse and it truely is...
I refuse to take meds but that is a personal choice....
It is a wonderful thing that you are learning all you can about it and nutrition is so important.

LOL Shine I can see you interacting with patients and know the affect ya have on people.. You are wonderful...
Hope the babies lil tear ducts clear up soon...there was one of mine like that...I can't remember which one...

Hope you are all have a wonderful day...just got back from church and the kids are coming for lunch and swim..

My wife and I started our day by cooking breakfast for the fire department (at their place, not our's). I baked a couple of pans of eggs with country sausage and cheese and took over a large bowl of sourdough pancake batter. I waited until I got everything ready before I added the last ingredient (baking soda). The baking soda reacts with the batter and forms bubbles. I had plenty of food for them and they called another station and told them to come on over. I still brought home a few leftovers though. By going over at shift change, I caught two shifts that way. I will have to schedule another day to pick up the third shift. They gave my wife and I each an apron with the fire department logo on it. I'm sure they buy those to outfit their crew that does an annual fundraiser for their "Toys For Tots" program. I took them a plate of cookies around last Christmas and their station was almost filled to capacity with toys. What an outfit.

Randy you are so thoughtful. No wonder I like you so much. People no matter what walk of life loves to be appreciated.

Randy and MF
What an awesome thing to do. I'm sure it was muchly appreciated by them.
You both are such awesome and sweet people. I'm so glad I've had the pleasure of meeting you both in person and spending some quality time with you and all your family.
I think of that night often that we all sat in the living room and talked all night. The whole family. It was such a nice time. Many hugs to you and MF.

I've had becca here for a little over a week. I have greatly enjoyed this time. We were in the garden this evening. I was letting her smell the herbs I have. She decided to smell the rue and didn't like it. She does love the smell of the fennel. I hope the ones I took her have lived. We had a great time at the beach. Becca had never been in the ocean before and she had a great time. She learned that the waves are not all the same, that when you pick up seashells be sure there are not any critters still in them cause it gets smelly after a day or so. She went up and down the ladders on the USS Lexington, she talked to the gentlemen who were there to help with the tour. becca is very curious about things and it was fun to go to the aquarium with her. We both took some awesome pictures of the fish there. Becca and a camera are best friends. I used my digital camera to take a couple of short videos of her on the beach. Her momma loved it. I am sad that she goes home on tues. but I will bring Jamie back with me for a month. We will be making sure she has everything she needs for horse camp. Jame with becca and sherri's help sold 1572 boxes of cookies so she could go to horse camp. Jamie is taking swimming lessons starting next week. This is the time of the year I like best when the girls ae here. Sherri can't come cause she has a job. bummer.

Don't you hate to see them grow older and have to stay away for things like that. But then you love to see them grow and mature into fine young people. I'm assuming the Lexington was a cruiser. If I knew the letters and number, I could tell more about it. A CA would be a heavy cruiser and carry 8" guns whereas a CL would be a light cruiser and weild 6" guns.

Laurie, that was a good time back then and we managed some other good talks during that time. By the way, my diabetes dietician wants to learn how to make jam too. We'll have to line up a time when she has off and take care of that. We had a minor catastrophe today. Ari realized that we are out of Marionberry jam. I was able to placate her for awhile though with some wild blackberry. She told me that she would go berry picking with me when I went though and that is the first time one of the kids has said that for a long time. I didn't tell her that I have some Marionberries in the freezer. I probably should do a batch of jam to get them through until the new berries are ready for picking.

Miss Dale, this whole gardening forum is a community of like-minded people. Makes you wonder if some of the ills of the world would be solved if everyone spent some hours with their plants.

Goody on the breakfast for the firefighters...they were blessed...as you were...nothing more wonderful than being of service to fellow man.
The marionberry jam was very good...Yummy! :D
The blackberries here are in full bloom.
Lyn sounds like a wonderful time with grand children.
It is amazing how quickly they grow up...
My oldest two are growing so quickly...Jordan sat on my lap yesterday and I told her baby you are almost getting too big for Nana to hold you... She is 17...she wants to be a traveling nurse...
Hope you all have a wonderful week... I am excited about mine...

Randy the Lexington is an aircraft carrier. It is huge but not as big as they are now. It served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. My hubby went to the engine room tour but we girls didn't. We did the one with the captains quarters and we did the flight deck. It was fun. There were alot of ladders to climb. They had a large number of planes on the deck for exhibit. there were some prop planes from WWII and then there were jets from Korea and Viet Nam era. We got to see pictures where the deck was redone to make room for the jets. It was very interesting to see. A couple of the men on the tour as guides had served on the Lexington. That gave it a different twist. I can't believe how excited becca was to get to the ocean. She could hardly wait to get checked in and up to the room so she could go down and frolic in the ocean. She was shocked by the first mouthful of ocean water. Oh yeah she got a sunburn the last morning we were there. She forgot to put on sunblock. I almost forgot the ship was home to the blue angels for a time.

I should have remembered that, Lyn. That would mean that the ship type would be a "CVA" which means 'attack carrier'. We operated with carriers in the task force in the far east. The destroyers served as escorts around the carriers to prevent submarine attack. When they launched or received their planes back onto the carrier, a couple of detroyers would then serve as "plane guard". Our job there was to retrieve/rescue the pilot in case he had to ditch. My position on plane guard was 'swimmer'. I had been certified as a life guard by training. I think there were about 6 men on a plane guard crew. There were a couple of men to handle the Stokes stretcher, a telephone talker to maintain contact with the bridge, a man to handle a grappling hook, the swimmer, and a rifleman. My rifleman had a warped sense of humor. He was forever telling me that she sharks would never get me alive.

Wow so much to read here.....been a while since I checked in! Good to see everyone is well and enjoying the summer. It's a busy time of the year for me here, both inside and out. A while back we had a bit of mild flooding that caused a bit of damage but insurance covered it all. There's been tradesmen comming and going for about the last month or so, but everything is slowly getting back to normal here. Some of my gardens were washed away and I had to start from scratch with them, it's a long process but finally things are taking shape, thank goodness. We've just opened our last jar of rosella jam and I'm about to make some more manderine jelly as this year's crop was a little on the sour side, not sure why, perhaps all the unseasonable water affected them. We're yet to get our first frost here so hopefully it'll hold off a little longer until I get all my sensitive plants in my shed for the winter. My lemon tree which is only about 5 feet tall has 33 almost ripe lemons on it......recipes please anyone? I've been given a self pollinating low chill cherry tree, variety Stella, it should be interesting to see how it goes in my climate......the Keri berry has shoots on it too, much too early, I'll have to cover it up if frost is forecast all I'll lose the canes. Hopefully I'll be able to check in a little more often and see how everyone's doing......John:)

John glad you had a good trip for your birthday. My sister ordered me two dwarf Meyers lemon trees and they came yesterday. What fertilizer do you use on the lemon trees?
